WSIB Coverage for Incontinence Supplies

Quick answer: If a work-related injury or illness, such as a spinal cord injury, caused your incontinence or bladder problems, Ontario's Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) may cover the supplies you need. These can include catheters, external collection systems and absorbent products. Your claim must include the bladder condition, and supplies usually need a healthcare provider's prescription.

Who can get supplies through WSIB?

People with an allowed WSIB claim where incontinence or a bladder condition is part of the work-related injury or illness. Coverage is tied to your claim, so your case manager is your main contact.

How to get set up

  1. Talk to your WSIB case manager about the supplies you need.
  2. Get a prescription or recommendation from your doctor, nurse practitioner, or continence nurse.
  3. Order from ActivKare and pay at checkout. ActivKare doesn't bill WSIB directly, so keep the receipt that comes with your order.
  4. Submit your receipt to WSIB for reimbursement, following your case manager's instructions.

Tips

  • Keep copies of prescriptions and approvals.
  • If your needs change, ask your provider for an updated prescription and let your case manager know.
  • Ask about related items too, such as skin care, underpads or catheter accessories.
